What’s covered?

For full details of whats covered take a look at our policy documents

Medical Emergencies

An accident abroad

Few countries have total universal healthcare, and most outside the EU don’t have reciprocal healthcare agreements with the UK. What all this means is that the cost of getting treatment, from something minor but urgent all the way up to medical repatriation, can be hugely expensive. This is what travel insurance is there to help with, giving you reassurance and help when you’re at your most vulnerable.

Baggage

Lost valuables

Some holiday mishaps are down to sheer bad luck. Getting pickpocketed on a busy street, your airline mislaying your bags or someone picking up the wrong rucksack at the bus stop – you just can’t plan for losing your valuables. But you can plan to get help with the replacement costs by getting a Backpacker Travel Insurance quote with us.

Boat

Sporting activities ~

If you’re off travelling the world with a backpack, we’re willing to bet you can be tempted by the odd adventure sport or two. Our cover offers plenty of options for sports that follow you off the beaten track, from abseiling to professionally-supervised shark diving (in a cage, of course). Check your policy wording for the full list and our terms and conditions.

We’ve been voted one of the best British Travel Insurance Providers by the UK public for over ten consecutive years.† We're particularly proud of our achievement because those awards are based solely on the number of votes we receive from the UK public. In other words, we have people like you to thank for our success.

So wherever you are thinking of visiting, and whatever it is you want to experience, why not use Post Office to provide your Backpacker Travel Insurance?

Winter Sports Cover

Our travel insurance even covers you when you play snooker, although we hate to think what sort of injury you might incur. If you're a fan of winter sports, we cover you for skiing, ski run walking, snow boarding and going off piste within resort boundaries for an additional premium. We also offer essential protection in case of accidents on the piste and damaged or stolen ski equipment and piste closure. Terms and conditions apply. >>

Backpacker Travel Insurance FAQs ~~

What is Backpacker Insurance?

Backpacker Insurance is designed for those of us who like to travel the world – and we’ve taken a lot into account. Whether it’s that you can return home for up to 7 days as many as 3 times or that there are a great number of adventure sports included, it’s designed with you in mind.

Will I need extra cover with Backpacker Insurance?

While we’ve included a lot of adventure sports as standard on our Backpacker Insurance, things like skiing need extra levels of cover to make sure you’ve got the best protection. You will need to add this to your policy at an additional premium.

You can add Excess Waiver cover to your policy so you won't need to pay any part of any claims you make.

Before you buy travel insurance, you should also check our policy terms and conditions carefully to make sure that any adventure sports or activities you want to take part in are covered. For example, if you are going to be doing any voluntary Manual work, please be aware that should you need to make a claim, the excess will increase to £250 and purchasing the optional excess waiver will not remove this excess.

What’s covered with Backpacker Insurance?

Like other forms of travel insurance, Backpacker Insurance gives you emergency medical cover, cancellation or curtailment and loss of belongings. Available on Economy level you might want to ensure that this is a sufficient level of cover for your needs by looking at our policy documents
