Exchange rates change regularly and will depend on the bureau de change you use, the currency you’re buying and whether you buy in a branch or online. At Post Office, our best rates can often be found online, but it’s worth checking your local branch that sells foreign currency too. As with everything, shopping around can help you get the best deal. And remember that buying at the airport will often mean you get unfavourable rates, so it’s always good to buy ahead of time.
Even if you find a great deal, make sure you understand fees (such as delivery fees or card issuer charges) associated with buying foreign currency, as these may make things more expensive.
How can I buy travel money?
You’ve got a few options to get your foreign currency with Post Office. You can find your nearest branch that offers travel money and select the currency you want to buy, or you can purchase your currency online and choose to collect it from your nominated branch or have it delivered to your home (delivery may include fees).
You could also get yourself a Travel Money Card, which allows you to switch between currencies, top up digitally (online or using our travel app) and pay at millions of paypoints worldwide. This is a safe, easy and secure way to take foreign money away with you without having to worry about carrying cash.
