Cancellation cover all year round
If you need to cancel a trip for a reason outlined in your policy, you know that you’re covered.
If you go away more than once in a year, it's worth exploring annual multi-trip, as it often works out as more cost-effective than buying multiple single-trip policies. You can choose AMT for UK, Europe or Worldwide cover. You don’t need to know all your holiday destinations when you take out a policy, but if you want the freedom to book a trip outside of Europe, be sure to select the Worldwide option.
In the table below we show you some examples of whether it's cheaper to get single-trip policies or an AMT policy with economy cover, depending on the holidays you take in a 12-month period. This applies to all ages up to 75, which is the upper age limit for annual cover. Data is accurate as of June 2026.
| Holidays in a year | Which product is cheapest? |
|---|---|
| 1 week in Spain | Single-trip |
| 1 week in Spain + 5 days in France | AMT Europe |
| 1 week in the USA + 4 days in Ireland | AMT Worldwide |
| 2 weeks in Turkey + 3 days in the Lake District | AMT Europe |
| 1 week in Spain + 10 days in Sri Lanka + 1 week in Norway | AMT Worldwide |
Please note there’s a limit to the length of time you can spend away on any individual trip. All Post Office Travel insurance policies cover you up to a maximum of 31 days. If you’re going to be away for longer, you can add our trip extension cover. This gives you extended protection of 45 or 60 days, for an additional premium.

Book last-minute holidays without insurance hassle
When you’ve got your policy, you can relax. There’s no risk of forgetting insurance. You don’t need to tell us when or where you’re going. Just make sure you have the right policy (UK, Europe or Worldwide) for where you want to travel.

If you decide to renew your annual policy, we’ll give you a discount on next year’s price.
The same benefits as single-trip policies
As with single-trip policies, under 18s with no medical conditions go free on family policies, Medical Assistance Plus2 is included and all the same cover levels apply. The only differences are that trips must be shorter than 31 days each and there is an upper age limit of 75.
Have peace of mind when you travel knowing health professionals are just one click away.
Medical Assistance Plus2, powered by Air Doctor, comes free with all our travel insurance policies. It gives you access to outpatient medical support while you’re away.
Through the service, you can book an in-person or video consultation with a doctor. You can also get prescriptions delivered to your nearest pharmacy.
We’ll send you an SMS reminder about the service the day before you travel (for single-trip and backpacker cover) or the day before your policy begins (for annual multi-trip cover).
Here’s a summary of the cover you get with our annual holiday insurance. For full details check our policy documents. Terms and conditions apply.
Kids covered for free
If you buy annual family travel insurance, children aged under 18 will be covered at no extra cost. All you have to do is name them on the policy and confirm that they have no medical conditions. They’ll be covered even if they’re invited on holiday with another adult, such as a friend or relative
Emergency medical expenses
If you need emergency medical treatment, support returning to the UK and other related assistance while you're travelling abroad, travel insurance can help cover the costs
Delayed departure3
With yearly insurance, you’re covered if your first outbound or final inbound international departure is delayed by 4 or more hours. As long as it matches certain reasons set out in the policy wording
Baggage
We cover your personal belongings against loss, damage and theft, up to the limits in your policy. Always get a police report for loss or theft and check your policy wording for full details
Personal liability and legal costs
Annual travel insurance also includes protection for any unexpected personal liability and legal costs you might be charged while you're away
Sporting activities included
Cover for over 100 sports and activities is included in your policy. Some high-risk activities aren’t covered, while others aren’t covered for personal injury or personal liability. You can find the full list of cover in our terms and conditions

Let’s find the right multi-trip holiday insurance to keep you covered all year round. Get a quote today
Multi-trip travel insurance provides annual cover for those who go abroad several times a year. Having annual travel protection means you'll have your insurance sorted every time you travel, without the expense of buying a new policy for each trip.
Remember to check that all destinations are covered in your policy. All our policies have a maximum 31-day trip duration limit, so be sure to add trip extensions (up to 45 or 60 days) as an extra if you plan on being away for longer.
Annual travel insurance covers you for a 12-month period and you just pay one, annual premium. You can take as many trips as you like in that year, but there are maximum duration limits (ours is 31 days per trip).
Not all policies come with the same level of cover. Always check policy details when comparing annual holiday insurance.
The main benefits of annual holiday insurance are cost and convenience. When you choose yearly travel insurance over single-trip, you only pay one premium for the whole year. For those who go away multiple times a year, it often works out cheaper. It also saves you time, as you won’t need to shop around for cover every time you travel.
Buying an annual multi-trip travel insurance policy saves you money in the long run. Pay a bigger premium to be covered for the whole year, instead of multiple smaller premiums. Trips need to be 31 days or fewer to be covered. If you travel a lot, paying a single premium will be worth it.
The start date can be up to 90 days in advance. If you have a pre-booked trip and need cancellation cover, make the start of your policy the date you take it out, not the date your trip starts.
The period of multi-trip holiday insurance is for 12 months. In that time, you’re insured for each trip you book and undertake within that period, up to the maximum trip duration for your chosen policy.
Post Office offers three levels of travel insurance. These are economy, standard and premier. Finding the best annual holiday insurance for you will depend on how much cover you need for your trips.
Our policies provide cover for cancellation for Covid-19 if:
If an insured trip has to be cut short, the unused portion of it can be claimed for if:
There’s also cover for medical and repatriation costs if you fall ill with Covid-19 while away. Call our emergency assistance line and we’ll help you seek treatment. If needed, we can also arrange to bring you back to the UK.
There’s no other coronavirus cover on our policies, but for extra reassurance you can add our trip disruption cover upgrade option. This gives you added protection against missed departures and expenses charged due to change of testing or quarantine requirements. Add it to your preferred policy for an extra premium.
Should the FCDO advise against all travel to your destination, there’s no cover under any section of the policy if you decide to travel.
It’s important to follow FCDO advice on essential travel. If you choose to travel and the trip’s not essential, we’ll only cover a claim if the cause isn’t linked to the reason for the FCDO advice. This limitation applies even if you’ve purchased an optional trip disruption upgrade. You may be able to travel with full cover if we authorise, in writing, that your trip’s essential before you travel. To request this, please email travelinsurancefeedback@postoffice.co.uk.
Please make sure you’re clear what’s covered and what’s not. Check the answers to common questions about coronavirus cover and the full policy wording for more details.
You can cancel your policy within 14 days of receiving your insurance documents. But you can only cancel if you’ve not started a trip, made a claim or intend to make a claim. If you meet these criteria, we’ll give you a full refund.
If you cancel after the 14-day cooling-off period, you won’t qualify for a refund. For annual multi-trip policies, the cancellation period is extended up to the start date of the policy, even if this is more than 14 days from the date you received your documents.
However, we’ll consider any exceptional events that may allow us to repay you for any unused cover. These include bereavement, or an unexpected change to your policy that means we’re no longer able to carry on insuring you.
The unused premium will be calculated on a sliding scale. You can find more information on this in your policy wording.
