Some common questions

What’s the minimum and maximum weight allowed for a parcel?

There’s no minimum but your item must be large enough to add an address and postage labels for the service you choose.

The maximum weight for Royal Mail domestic services is 20kg, except Special Delivery Guaranteed by 9am where it’s 2kg. For Royal Mail international services it’s 2kg, except printed papers for which it’s 5kg (some restrictions apply).

You can find more out here.

Can I use my prepaid postage label?

Yes. Most Royal Mail and Parcelforce Worldwide labels are accepted in Post Office branches. The only current exception is Royal Mail Tracked 24 and Tracked 48 labels bought online from the Royal Mail Click and Drop Platform.

Can you track proof of posting?

Not for items sent using standard mail. But you can get delivery confirmation for Small Parcel Size items and above here. And, if you buy a service with a signature or tracking, you can track your item online here.

How should I pack items for posting?

Here are some tips to help get your items where they’re going quickly and safely:

  • Write a return address on the item
  • Put a contact name, address and phone number inside
  • Use padded envelopes for sharp edges or odd shapes<
  • Make sure fragile items don’t touch each other or the side of the container
  • Cushion items inside with bubble wrap or polystyrene chips (available at Post Office branches)
  • Seal your package securely with nylon or vinyl tape along all edges and openings
