Royal Mail or Parcelforce Worldwide will automatically try redeliver the next working day after the first missed delivery.

Items will then be returned to the location on the ‘Something for You’ attempted delivery card they leave behind.

How to collect a parcel from your local branch

  1. You can choose your pick-up point

    If the location on the card is not convenient, you can have your item redelivered for free to your local Post Office branch

  2. Change to your local branch

    Visit the Royal Mail redelivery webpage, select the option to redeliver to ‘Local Post Office’ and choose your local branch

  3. What you’ll need for collection

    Bring along proof of identity, address, and the P739 ‘Something for you’ card

Please note there's no charge for this service for items delivered by Royal Mail, but there may be a small charge for Parcelforce items

Bring some ID 

To collect a parcel from a Post Office, you’ll need some proof of identity, as well as the tracking ID. It could be a full driving licence, passport or any of the list below. Just make sure it’s the original (not a copy) and for the person the parcel’s addressed to

We’ll accept any of these:

  • Digital ID – Post Office ID or Yoti
  • Birth certificate
  • Building society book
  • Cheque book
  • Cheque guarantee card
  • Council tax payment book
  • Credit card
  • Credit card statement (no older than 6 months)
  • Debit card
  • Full driving licence
  • Marriage certificate
  • Military photo ID
  • Police Warrant card
  • Foreign national identity card
  • National Savings bank book
  • Valid passport
  • Paid utilities bill (no older than 6 months)
  • Standard acknowledgement letter (SAL) issued by the Home Office for asylum seekers
  • Trade union card

If you’re under the age of 18 and can’t provide any of the above, we’ll take one of the following too (originals, not copies):

  • Medical card
  • National Insurance card
  • Savings book

Common missed delivery questions

  • Look for retailers that offer the Royal Mail Local Collect option. You can then choose to have your item delivered direct to one of 10,500 Post Office branches that offer the Local Collect service. Find one near you with our Branch Finder.

  • If you’ve got proof of the identity of the person the item’s addressed to then yes. Just make sure it’s the original ID and not a copy.

  • We’ll keep hold of items delivered by Royal Mail for 18 days and items from Parcelforce Worldwide for 15 days before returning them.
