Online seller stories: Bob and Julie, founders of Corby Kilns

Bob and Julie, the husband-and-wife duo behind Corby Kilns, have been at the heart of the UK’s pottery community for almost three decades.

Based in Northamptonshire, they’ve built a trusted, family-run business that supplies pottery equipment to ceramists across the country. And they rely on their local Post Office to get it done.

The couple behind the kilns

Corby Kilns was founded in 1996 by Bob, an experienced kiln engineer, with the support of his wife Julie. Together, they grew their business into the go-to destination for pottery equipment and supplies. They help studios, hobbyists and schools all across the UK.

Today, Corby Kilns is run by a close-knit team. Bob’s daughter Sarah manages their social media and marketing, while Ginny, a Ceramic Design graduate from Central Saint Martins offers expert advice to customers. They also have Edd, a skilled engineer who installs and fixes kilns and Katrina, a bookkeeper who helps keep everything running smoothly.

Although you might say that the real star of the show is Erik, the couple’s beloved dog and unofficial star of their Instagram page.

The family team share their love for what they do, how they’ve grown it, the support they give their customers and how their local Post Office branch helps them spend more time on what matters.

Supporting the pottery community

Corby Kilns is a place for pottery lovers. As Sarah, the company’s social media manager, puts it: "We take pride in supporting the pottery community. We love sharing our expertise and witnessing the creative journeys of our customers."

Their shop, both online and in store, has everything you need to start or grow your pottery journey. "We supply pottery tools, wheels, kilns, glazes and raw materials," Sarah adds.

But they don’t just sell supplies. Bob, Julie and their team also install and service kilns. And they even run fun pop-up pottery workshops for everyone, from beginners to experienced potters.

The whole team at Corby Kilns care about their customers. "We really value the relationships built over the years and feel proud to contribute to the growth of ceramic arts," Sarah explains. So it’s no wonder why they’re trusted by potters from all over the UK.

Reliable delivery and community connection

Reliable delivery is essential for Corby Kilns and their customers, many of whom are small business owners, educators or hobbyists who order online. "We know that timely delivery of materials and equipment is essential for our customers’ projects and schedules," Sarah adds.

That’s why the team rely on Drop & Go, a fast-drop service available at their local Post Office branch. "Services like this make things run more smoothly," Sarah says, "so we can focus on our customers instead of worrying about logistical challenges."

With Drop & Go, you can simply drop off your parcels and be on your way. There’s no need to scan, weigh or add postage labels, and your Post Office team process the parcels the same day.

It’s a quick and convenient way for sending parcels with Royal Mail and Parcelforce Worldwide from any Post Office that offers Drop & Go. Some also offer DPD and Evri services, so check with your local branch.

"Drop & Go offers a choice of couriers to meet various delivery needs, whether it’s fast shipping or cost-effective options," Sarah says. "This flexibility is really important to us."
