The New Taiwan dollar (abbreviated to TWD) is the official currency of Taiwan. The word ‘new’ is added only in formal contexts to avoid confusion, though these days confusion is unlikely. Its currency symbol is NT$, but you may also see it as 圓 and 元 locally.
The currency is issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of China (Taiwan) and is one of over 60 currencies available commission-free from Post Office. You can buy dollars for Taiwan online or buy your currency in selected branches
The New Taiwan dollar is used only by Taiwan. No other country or territory uses the Taiwanese dollar.
The country is officially known as the Republic of China or ROC (different from the People’s Republic of China, which we know simply as China).
You can buy Taiwan dollars online or in selected branches with Post Office (find a nearby participating branch). It’s easy, commission-free and we’ll give you a competitive rate.

The lowest denomination is the 1 dollar coin. Other coins available are the 5, 10, 20 and 50 dollar coins. You may encounter some half-dollar coins, but they’re no longer issued.
