Post Office Money® Current Accounts are currently unavailable 

Important information – closure of the Post Office Money Current Account

Following a review by our Current Account provider Bank of Ireland UK, a decision has been made to no longer offer Post Office Money Current Accounts. We wrote to all customers on 11th March 2019 to ask them to make arrangements to switch or close their accounts by 11th September 2019.

Any accounts that are still open on 11th September 2019 are due to close on or soon after this date.

Some customer accounts will remain open for a short period, but with limited service options. We will no longer offer an Online service from 11th September 2019. For further information please refer to our frequently asked questions.

No other Post Office Money products are impacted by this change.

Use the Current Account Switch Service

You can use the Current Account Switch Service (CASS) to help you move to a new current account.

Close your account.

If you want to simply close your account, you will need to move any direct debits and other payments to another account in your name and withdraw or transfer any remaining funds.

How to switch to a new account – Current Account Switch Service (CASS)

To switch to a new account, you will need to open one with another bank or building society or nominate an existing one already open in your name.

Then you need to let your new bank or building society know that you wish to switch your Post Office Money Current Account across.

The new bank or building society will take care of everything by:

  • Agreeing the date you want to make the switch.
  • Moving your money to your new account
  • Transferring your existing incoming and outgoing payment arrangements
  • Asking us to close your old Post Office Money Current Account

The Current Account Switch Service makes switching from one bank or building society to another simple and stress-free. Over 99% of UK current accounts are covered by the Current Account Switch Service guarantee. In the unlikely event that something goes wrong with your switch, your new provider will refund any interest (paid or lost) or charges incurred on your old or new account as a result. How to close your account

If you would prefer to close your Post Office Money Current Account yourself, you can do so in one of two ways. If you already have another current account, all you need to do is move any direct debits, standing orders and incoming payments to your other account. After doing so, you can:

  • Closure Form: Fill out the account closure form in the link and send it to Post Office Money Current Accounts, PO Box 86, Armagh, BT61 0BL. OR you can:
  • Telephone: Call us on 0800 917 2749 to see if we can close your account over the phone. For security and protection, we can only do this if certain criteria are met which we will confirm when we speak to you. For joint accounts, please make sure both account holders are present.

Your Deposits are Protected

Your eligible deposits with Bank of Ireland (UK) plc are protected up to a total of £85,000 by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, the UK's deposit guarantee scheme. This limit is applied to the total of any deposits you have with the following: ‘Bank of Ireland UK’ and ‘Post Office Money’ and savings accounts under the ‘AA Savings’ brand provided by Bank of Ireland UK. Any total deposits you hold above the limit between these brands are unlikely to be covered.
