What is a Banking Hub?

Banking Hubs are shared spaces in the heart of communities where you can do your banking. They’re funded by Cash Access UK and operated by Post Office. And they’re run in partnership with some of the UK’s major high street banks to bring shared cash and banking services to your community.

Inside each hub, you’ll find a counter staffed by a Post Office team. They can help with you with banking services for both personal and business accounts. And they’re often managed by one of our local postmasters.

Hubs also include a private space where you can talk to community bankers from different banks. This is generally on specific days of the week, though the banks and the days they’re on site can differ by hub.

What can you do at a Banking Hub?

You can do all this at Banking Hubs:

  • Take out cash from your account
  • Pay in cash and cheques
  • Check your balance
  • Request change (with business accounts for some banks)
  • Meet a representative from certain banks on selected days

The services available and what you’ll need to bring in are determined by your bank.

Our banking services page lists the banks whose services you can access at Banking Hub counters, and which services are available.

Cath, retired nurse

Cath likes using cash to help her budget. But when her bank closed, getting cash became hard because nearby ATMs were gone or charged fees.

Now, she visits her town’s new Banking Hub to take out money and check her balance easily.

“It feels just like a bank,” she says. “It’s great, and it’s ours!”

Talk with your community banker

If you need advice about your bank account, other services from your bank or other financial support, you can meet with community bankers at Banking Hubs. Each hub offers five community banking days per week, with each day hosting a different bank.

Depending on the hub, representatives could be from any of the following. Check in your nearest hub’s window or ask the team which banks’ community bankers visit and when.

  • AIB (NI)
  • Bank of Ireland UK
  • Bank of Scotland
  • Barclays
  • Danske Bank
  • Halifax
  • HSBC UK
  • Lloyds Bank
  • NatWest
  • Royal Bank of Scotland
  • Santander UK
  • TSB Bank
  • Ulster Bank
  • Virgin Money

In most cases community bankers operate on a walk-in, first come first served system. Some banks may let you pre-book appointments but check with your local hub team. You can discuss in private anything you’d like to, from savings, mortgages and loans to other banking questions.

Lisa, business owner

Lisa runs an independent clothing and accessories shop.

When her bank closed, she worried about the long trips to deposit her cash takings and where to get financial support.

Now, she uses her local Banking Hub to pay in cash and cheques. She also meets with a community banker there every six months.

Just need to deposit money?

If you just need to pay in cash or cheques, withdraw money, check your balance or get change for your business, you can do it at a Banking Hub if it’s convenient. But you can also do it any Post Office branch.

  • Post Office branches offer banking services for personal and business accounts
  • There are over 11,500 Post Office branches across the UK
  • 4,000 branches are open seven days a week

You don’t need an appointment. Just walk in and get it done.

Josh, self-employed gardener

Josh often gets paid in cash by his customers. It builds up quickly so, for peace of mind, he needs bank it often. But this was tricky when his local bank closed.

Then a Banking Hub opened nearby. Now he goes every week, saving time and getting help from the friendly team there.

“I can’t fault them,” he says. “They make it really easy.”
