Travel money made simple when Brazil beckons

With everything from lush Amazon jungle to old colonial towns and modern, vibrant cities like Rio, it’s easy to see Brazil’s draw. If you’re feeling it too, make sure you have travel money for the trip.

At Post Office, you can order Brazilian real online or in branch. Click & Collect lets you pick up orders in any branch as early as the next working day. Or we can deliver online orders to your home.

If you buy Brazilian currency online you may get a better rate than in branch. If any currency’s left, we’ll buy back Brazilian real banknotes commission-free. In the unfortunate event that your trip is cancelled, we also offer a refund guarantee. And if you buy Post Office Travel Insurance to cover your trip that’s another thing less to tick off your travel checklist.

How far will my money go in Brazil?

Despite its increased popularity in recent years, Brazil’s still friendly to both budget travellers and those splashing out. Hostel dormitories with self-catering facilities are a good way to live cheaply but you can get a hotel room to yourself inexpensively on a mid-range budget. The cost of food and accommodation is generally lower in more rural areas.

We’ve done tons of research on travel costs around the world. See our Holiday Money report below for more information on how to be price-wise as you hop from place to place. Our research found that whilst travelling in Brazil you can get a three-course meal for two with wine for around £65.40 in Rio, a bottle of water for 62p and your morning coffee for just £1.66.

  • Know when to go – missing Rio’s busy carnival week, as well as school holidays in January and June, can avoid higher prices for accommodation
  • Agree on taxi fares – many drivers won’t turn their metres on at all, so settle on a price before you set off to avoid being ripped off
  • Try an Amazon alternative – on a one-day trip to the Pantanal it’s possible to see all kinds of wildlife, including caimans, macaws and toucans
