Missed departures or connections^

You’re covered for missing a scheduled departure if:

  • You’re delayed leaving the UK waiting for a negative Covid-19 test result*
  • You or someone you’re travelling or staying with tests positive and you have to self-isolate
  • Your hotel or cruise ship** gets put into compulsory quarantine† due to Covid-19

Cutting your trip short

Claim for the unused part of your trip on your return if:

  • You miss pre-booked transport to leave the UK waiting for a delayed test result, so end your trip *
  • You have to self-isolate when someone you’re travelling or staying with tests positive so miss the rest of your trip
  • Compulsory quarantine† of your hotel or cruise ship** prevents the rest of your planned trip
  • You return home early when UK rules for your destination change to avoid having to quarantine away from home
Medical Emergencies

Changes to UK quarantine rules

If regulations for your destination change while you’re there, you can claim for:

  • Unexpected costs of mandatory quarantine accommodation on your return to the UK
  • Covid-19 tests you weren’t liable for when you booked your trip or bought your policy – whichever you did last

*Tests must be taken at your departure point on the day of your trip’s due to start, and you must arrive at the airport at least 4 hours before you scheduled departure.

** Cover only applies to your immediate accommodation, not a mandatory quarantine applied to a wider geographical area around it.

† By a medical practitioner, health authority or government body.

The Covid-19 upgrade is not applicable for trips taken solely within the UK.

Stay protected: check before you travel

Remember, if you travel somewhere the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advises against all travel to you risk invalidating your travel insurance. If the FCDO have advised to only undertake essential travel to a destination and your trip is not essential and you choose to travel, we will only cover a claim if the cause is not linked to the reason for the FCDO advice. This limitation applies even if you have purchased an optional Trip Disruption or Covid-19 upgrade.

Protection for airspace closure

Few of us can forget the holiday mayhem that dogged travellers when drone sightings closed Gatwick’s airspace. If this happens to you then getting compensation might be a priority.

So we’ve got airspace closure cover to keep things simple. If airspace closure grounds flights for more than 24 hours, you can make a claim for abandonment. If you’re already in the air and this stops you from landing at your destination or returning to the UK, you can claim for additional travel and accommodation costs then too.

Definitions

A Single trip policy will cover you for one trip up to:

365 days for persons aged up to and including age 70.

90 days for persons aged between 71 and 75.

31 days for persons aged between 76 and above.

Under Annual Multi-Trip although you can take as many trips as you want within the policy year, there is a maximum duration for each individual trip. This limit varies depending on the cover level chosen and will be 17 or 31 days. On some policies the limit can be extended to 31, 45 or 60 days for an additional premium.
