Common questions about personal loans

Loans, quotes and applications

About our loans

  • Post Office has partnered with Lendable, a trusted online loan provider based in the UK.

Lendable want to make borrowing quicker, simple and easier to manage. Their service is fully online with no paperwork and is designed to remove some of the common barriers to getting a loan.

We’ve chosen to work with them because:

    • Applying for a loan is quick and easy
    • You can get a quote quickly without affecting your credit score
    • If approved, you could get the money on the same day
    • You can pay your loan off early if you want to
    • They aim to offer a fair and straightforward service

Post Office acts as a broker and Lendable is the lender. Lendable is registered with the UK Financial Conduct Authority and relevant fraud prevention and data protection services.

Getting a quote

  • Once you’ve requested a quote for a Post Office Personal Loan, it will be reviewed by our partners at Lendable. You don’t need to contact them during this stage.

Next, we’ll email you to confirm your application. We might also ask for more documentation to help process it.

You can view your quote or check the status of your application in your online account. Just go to the login page and enter your e-mail address. You’ll get a secure link to access your account.

If you've uploaded documents and are waiting for a decision, your application will be marked ‘In review.’ We’ll be in touch with the outcome as soon as possible.

  • When you request a quote for a Post Office Personal Loan, we work with our credit reference agency partner TransUnion to do a ‘soft’ credit search to check if we can offer you a quote. This won’t affect your credit score and other lenders won’t be able to see it.

If your quote is pre-approved, it means you’re likely to be able to get a loan with us if you choose to go ahead with your application.

Important: All quotes still need to be reviewed by Lendable’s decisions team. They’ll also carry out final verification checks.

Your application

  • You can view your quote or check the status of your application in your online account. Just go to the login page and enter your e-mail address. You’ll get a secure link to access your account.

If you've uploaded documents and are waiting for a decision, your application will be marked ‘In review.’ We’ll be in touch with the outcome as soon as possible.

  • You can upload documents through your online account. It’s important that you save documents as PDFs or upload clear photos of original documents taken with a smartphone. If you’re sending a photo, please make sure the entire document is visible and all information is easy to read.

  • Our partners at Lendable will review your loan application. You don’t need to stay logged in or contact them during this stage.

You’ll then get an email to confirm the outcome of your application. They’ll also let you know if they need any extra information from you.

  • Once you’ve completed your application and your loan is approved, we’ll send you an email with all the details.

You'll typically get the loan amount straight away. The money usually appears in your bank account within two hours, but this can vary depending on your bank.

Managing your loan and payments

Managing your loan

  • To log in to your online account:

    • Go to the login page
    • Enter your email address
    • You’ll get a secure link to access your account

You can then manage your personal loan account from there.

  • You can choose your payment date when you apply for your loan.

You can also view your full repayment schedule in your online account.

  • No, you can't combine your two loans into a single loan amount.

You can have two loans at the same time, but they’ll be treated as separate loans with individual monthly payments.

Changes and cancellations

  • Some changes may be made in your online account, such as:

    • Updating details like your address and email
    • Changing your monthly repayment date
    • Making extra payments towards your loan or paying it off early

    Log into your online account

  • No, you can’t top up your current loan.

You might be eligible for a second loan if you’ve met the criteria based on your existing loan repayments. You can find out more in your online account.

  • You can cancel and repay your loan within 14 days of the money being paid into your account. If you do this, you won’t need to pay any interest or fees.

After 14 days, you won’t be able to cancel your loan.

To cancel and repay your loan:

    • Log into your online account
    • Go to the ‘Manage’ tab to find the bank details you need to make a repayment
    • Make a bank transfer from your own account to return the full loan amount

Once our partners at Lendable have received the funds, they’ll send you an email to confirm that your loan has been cancelled.

Security, fraud and making complaints

  • Please call our partners at Lendable on 0808 531 0454. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm.

Or email them at postoffice@lendable.co.uk so they can look into this for you.

You can also report this on the Action Fraud website or by calling them on 0300 123 2040.

  • If someone has asked you to apply for a loan, please contact the team at Lendable before you go ahead.

Some situations can be signs of a scam, such as:

    • You're told to take out a loan and send the money to someone else, especially if you don’t know them or haven’t met them in person
    • You’re promised a reward, offer or “return on investment” if you take out a loan and pass the money on
    • You’re being rushed into making a decision or told it’s a limited time offer

If you have already applied for a loan and you are worried you have been a victim of a scam, please call our partners at Lendable on 0808 531 0454. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. Or email them at postoffice@lendable.co.uk. They’ll look into it and help you from there.

  • Here are some simple things you can do to help protect yourself against fraud:

    • Check your accounts often. Look at your credit report and bank statements regularly. If you spot anything you don’t recognise, contact your bank or credit provider straight away
    • Keep personal documents safe. Things like your passport, driving licence, bank statements and utility bills should be stored in a safe place. Don’t throw away papers with personal details unless you’ve made sure the information isn’t visible
    • Never share passwords or PINs. Keep them secret and don’t write them down where others could find them. Remember, your bank or credit provider will never ask you to share these
    • Update your details if you move house. Tell your bank, credit card providers and utility companies that you’ve changed address. You can also arrange for mail redirection through Royal Mail

For more tips, visit Action Fraud or Take Five.

  • We're sorry that your experience wasn't what you expected.
