Does finding your way cause anxiety and angst?
When’s the last time you cooked a jacket potato in the oven rather than the microwave? How often do you pay with cash rather than an electronic payment? Do you remember the last time you checked the newspaper rather than your phone for the weather forecast?
Technology has well and truly taken over much of our lives. And the same goes for day-to-day living as well as trips and holidays. In fact, research from Post Office Money Car Insurance has shown just how much the traditional road trip has evolved.
The short story: most of us are clueless when it comes to reading maps, and getting from point A to B without help from technology. The study highlighted some facts that really shine a light on the modern condition:
- 20% of people haven’t so much as touched a roadmap in three years
- 15% of people have never used a roadmap at all, with 2.5 million people having no idea where to begin
- More than eight million adults didn’t know that Big Ben is located in London
- Young people (20’s) are more likely to stock up on road-trip snacks (41%) than to check the safety of their cars (28%) before a long drive.
Here are the ten most fearful road situations identified by the survey. What causes you most motoring anxiety?
