Common biometric residence permit collection questions

  • To collect your biometric residence permit, go to the Post Office branch mentioned in your Home Office letter. You'll need to bring:

    • Your Home Office collection letter
    • Your passport/travel document containing the vignette
    • Any other documents the Home Office has requested in your collection letter
  • Biometric residence permit collection is only available from selected Post Office branches.

    To find branches near you that offer the service, go to our branch finder and enter your location. Then filter the results, selecting ‘BRP Card Collection Services’ under ‘Home Office Services’.

  • Sorry, we can't tell you if your biometric residence permit is ready for collection. You’ll receive a letter from the Home Office, which will let you know when your BRP will be ready for pickup and which branch from.

  • You’ll receive a letter from the Home Office with details about when you can collect your biometric residence permit. This will also confirm which branch to pick it up from.

  • There are no fees to collect your BRP from the Post Office branch mentioned in your Home Office letter. But if you want to redirect your BRP to a different branch there will be a small fee.

  • If you need to redirect your biometric residence permit to a different Post Office branch, you can use our branch finder to locate one that’s more convenient. Search by your location. Then filter the results by selecting ‘BRP Card Collection Services’ under ‘Home Office Services.’

    Choose a preferred pickup location from the results. Then visit that branch to request the redirection and pay a small fee for the service. You can return 10 calendar days later to collect your BRP.

  • Yes, there’s a small fee for redirecting your biometric residence permit to another Post Office branch . Please ask the team in branch for details.

  • We accept both card and cash payments to redirect your BRP for collection in a different branch. Please make sure you have a valid payment method ready when requesting the redirection service in the branch you want to collect your BRP from.

  • Please let the Home Office know if you can’t collect your biometric residence permit for any reason. This includes if your BRP wasn’t available for collection at the scheduled time.

    You can report this via the GOV.UK BRP page. Make sure you include an email address. The Home Office will email you to tell you what to do next, which usually takes up to 5 working days.

  • If your BRP has been delivered to a Post Office branch that’s closed, please report this via the GOV.UK BRP page as soon as possible. The Home Office will reply by email, usually within 5 working days, to tell you what to do next. Please include your email address, as a reply could take longer if you don’t.

  • Please allow 10 working days for your BRP to be redirected to your preferred branch for collection. If it hasn’t arrived after that time, please complete our online form. Our customer service team will work with the branch and BRP secure collection team to try to resolve the issue.

  • If you were wrongly charged for BRP redirection, you’ll need to contact the Home Office to resolve this issue. Refunds for BRP redirection can only be processed through the Home Office.
