There are two ways you can leave the Post Office:

  • Completely cancel your service with us or any other provider.

  • Transfer your service to another provider.

It’s key that you consider your options before contacting us. Cancelling your service fully will mean in the future should you want broadband or a phone line again you will need to have a new line installed and a new number. Whereby transferring to another provider means you are no longer a Post Office customer, but you will retain a working phone line and broadband in your house.

How do I move from Post Office to another broadband or phone provider?

  • If you are switching to Virgin Media: you must contact our Customer Care team with your confirmed Virgin go live date, as the service will not automatically be transferred and you will still incur charges with Post Office.

  • If you're switching to any other provider such as BT, Plusnet, Sky or TalkTalk: You can place your new order directly with your chosen new provider. When we receive notification from your new provider of your intention to move we will contact you by letter to confirm your intention and remind you of the services you will no longer receive.

Please be aware that depending on the terms of your contract, you may have to pay an early termination charge if you cancel before your contract ends. Our Customer Retentions team will be happy to discuss this with you. Details of early termination charges can be found in our Price List.

How do I cancel my Post Office Service?

Note: We can only cancel a service if requested by the account holder or a representative of the account holder with Power of Attorney.

Alternatively you can write to us or email us to cancel your service, but we may need to call you back to verify your details and process your request. This can take up to five working days from when we receive your letter or email.Details of how to do this are on the contact us page.

What are the early termination charges?

When you sign up for Post Office Broadband or Home Phone you agree to have that service for a minimum contract term. If you decide to cancel your service with us before that minimum term ends, you may have to pay an early termination charge.

This charge varies depending on the promotional offer you took up when you joined and the number of months you have left on your contract. Further details can be found in our Price List.
