Post Office Budget Card Plus
Take control of your household budget by putting a little money aside regularly to cover your household bills and spread the cost of Christmas and other gifting occasions.
- Save what you can: put between a minimum £2 and maximum £250 in multiples of £1 up to the annual limit on your Budget Card Plus.
- Save up to a maximum of £3,000 every year: and, from 24 hours after putting money on the card, you can use it to pay for selected Post Office services like your car tax, telephone bill or One4all Gift Cards.

Helping you to budget better
With the Budget Card Plus you can’t go overdrawn, you won’t incur any fees or Budget Card Plus charges when you use it and because you’ve put your money aside, you won’t be tempted to spend it. You can check the balance of your card whenever you want, just call 0330 828 0881 to hear your balance over the phone or view it online.
Apply for the card
Complete the short application form and hand it over at the Post Office counter, with the two forms of identification you have selected (see list on application form) and a minimum of £2. (If you received a Post Office Payout letter from an old account, this can be used as one form of ID).

We’ll give you your Budget Card Plus straight away, so you can use it to start saving.
Use your card
When you're ready to pay for a bill or a service, bring your card into your local branch. We'll swipe it, take the money off it and ask you to sign the receipt as an extra security measure. From the 1st November until 31st January you can shop or buy gifts with your Budget Card Plus card at over 22,000 high street stores nationwide and at selected online stores including Amazon. Simply put money aside all through the year and you can spend at this great range of brands. Ensure you know your account balance before going shopping.
You must be 18 years or older to apply for a Budget Card Plus. The Budget Card Plus is not a credit card or a charge card, nor is it a debit card linked to a current account. It is a pre-paid card which means that money must be loaded onto the card and used via participating retailers. Interest will not be payable in respect of card balances. We will not issue Card statements. You can obtain your card balance and obtain information about previous card purchases online or calling 0330 828 0881.

The card is safe
If you lose your card or it's stolen just let us know and we'll stop the card. A £5 replacement fee applies for replacement of your card at your request. Please see terms and conditions for full details. We recommend you keep your card and the details of it safe, including the card number.
