The photo we take will be compliant with HM Passport Office guidelines and used as part of your child’s application
We’ll check your supporting documents to make they meet all the necessary requirements.
We’ll submit your child’s application electronically and send off your supporting documents to HM Passport Office by Special Delivery
HM Passport Office will send you text messages and emails to update you on the progress of your child’s application.
You’ll receive your child’s passport from the HM Passport Office in the post

A digital referee to confirm your child’s identity
When applying for your child’s first passport, you’ll need to provide details of someone who can confirm your identity.
This person will be emailed and asked to confirm your identity. Please check with them before you start the application that they are happy to be contacted for confirmation.
Have known the parent or guardian making the application for the child for at least 2 years
Must not be related, in a relationship with or living at the same address as the applicant or the person making the application
Be 18 or older
Have a current British or Irish passport and live in the UK

Our Digital Check & Send service costs £16.00. The fee includes your photo and delivery to the HM Passport Office. This is on top of the fee due to HM Passport Office.

Paper Check & Send is a Post Office service where we check and send your child's application by post for you
Our postmasters will help you get your passport application right first time in branch, for just £16 plus your passport fee
Complete the paper passport application form, which you can find at participating Post Office branches
You’ll need to bring in two colour photos that are compliant with HM Passport Office guidelines.
You may be able to get your child’s photograph taken in-branch, please ask if they offer this service
Bring your child’s application form, photos and any supporting documents to any branch that offers our Paper Check & Send service.
We’ll check them and make sure they meet all HM Passport Office requirements
We’ll send your child’s application and all supporting documents off to HM Passport Office by special delivery.
You’ll receive your child’s passport from the HM Passport Office in the post

A countersignatory to sign your child’s application form and photos (covered in the next section of this page)
If you’re applying for your child’s first passport, you’ll need to get someone else (a countersignatory) to sign their application form and two passport photographs to confirm their identity.
This person will be emailed or sent a letter and asked to confirm your identity. Please check with them before you start the application that they’re happy to be contacted for confirmation.
The person confirming your child’s identity (the countersignatory) must:
Have known you (or the parent/guardian applying on behalf of the child) personally for at least 2 years
Must not be related, in a relationship with or living at the same address as the applicant or the person making the application
Be 18 or older
Have a current British or Irish passport and live in the UK
Follow these steps carefully to make sure your application is sent successfully.
Our Paper Check & Send service costs £16.00. This includes the delivery fee to send your supporting documents to HMPO by Special Delivery. This is on top of the fee due to HM Passport Office. There could also be an additional fee for any compliant photographs we may need to take.
