Cash Kickstarters

Today we held a masterclass, called Cash Kickstarters.

The initiative was generally designed by young people for young people. So we know from them firsthand what they want to learn.

Whether that's budgeting, whether that's learning how to be in an interview, pitching yourself.

There are four individual modules and they include money making options, planning for success, finding your dream job and being your own boss.

The initiative has been powered by the charity Unloc.

The main goal of the activity is to offer a trusted source of helpful information and educational resources for young people focusing on their financial education.

The Cash Kickstarters masterclass and bootcamps are focused on helping young people learn about money and their career paths.

Every module is being designed so that they get some sort of knowledge input that will help them start to understand the different ways that money is going to play a role in their life.

And then we have an application element, which is very much the Unloc way of delivering things.

The first module was money-making options.

As a team they had to come up with different ways that they can create that business for themselves.

We do a melon tower challenge when it comes to understanding how to use money.

And they have a budget that they have to use to buy a number of resources.

So we spoke a lot about body language and how to pitch yourself in a interview in a way that's effective and shows confidence.

Body position, slight head tilt, be authentic. Everyone happy with that?

Also did an enterprise challenge at the end where we got them thinking about marketing a new product.

Then they had to pitch their idea back and make a TikTok video to advertise their product.

Lots of content like that really crammed into the three hours means that we can see that they're applying what they're learning all the way through the masterclass.

It's so important for kids and students of all ages to understand finances to a degree.

I think a session like this one today is really empowering for young people to actually understand what their finances are.

And kind of knowing what jobs want from them.

It's a creative way to really explore money.

We really try and bring that to life and think about the different ways they can generate income.

These are things that young people have told us they want and that’s what we're giving them.
