Apply online or pick up a D1 form at participating Post Office branches to apply by post
If you’re applying for your provisional driving licence online, please make sure you do it on the GOV.UK website.
Include a passport-sized photo, your ID documents and application fee.
Use the INF1D guide provided with the D1 to check that you have completed your application correctly.

Pay for it
The amount payable is listed on the back of the D1 form. For further information on up to date fees go to www.gov.uk/driving-licence-fees.
Cheques and postal orders are currently the only accepted ways to pay, please write your name and date of birth or driver number (if you know it), on the back of your payment method
Send it all to the DVLA
You’ll find the address on the D1 form.
We recommend sending it by Special Delivery, especially if valuable documents are inside.

Age 17
• Motorcycles (category A1) • Cars (category B)
Age 16
• Agricultural tractors (category F)
• Ride on mowers and pedestrian controlled vehicles excluding pedestrian controlled mowers (category K)
• Mopeds (categories AM and Q) [DW note: should this be A, M and Q?]No this is correct, all taken from .GOV website
• Cars (category B) – because you are getting Personal Independence Payment (PIP) (mobility component) at the enhanced rate, or have applied for PIP having previously received Disability Living Allowance (mobility component) at the higher rate.
You must not drive until you receive your licence, as this will give details of what and when you can start driving.
