Common questions about DBS checks

  • You can visit any Post Office branch that provides the DBS check service. It doesn’t have to be the branch you selected online.

    Use our branch finder to find a participating Post Office. 

  • No. All ID documents used for this service must be valid and in date.

  • No. We don’t accept photocopies or printouts of any document. They need to be originals.

    If you don’t have the original document, we recommend contacting whoever issued it, like your bank, to ask for a new one.

  • No, the person applying for the DBS check must attend in person. Most applications require photographic ID, which will be checked to confirm your identity.

  • We provide in-branch DBS checks for:

    • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
    • Care Quality Commission (CQC)
    • First Advantage (FADV)
    • Atlantic Data
  • If you were given a receipt, it means the transaction was processed successfully. For updates, please contact the company or organisation that requested the DBS check.
