CQC (Care Quality Commission) DBS

If you’re working in England’s health and social care services, you’ll need to get your Care Quality Commission (CQC) DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) application checked at the Post Office to verify your identity

We offer this service for just £17.50.

How it works

The CQC regulates all the health and social care services in England.

That means you’ll need to have a criminal records check if you’re a registered person, provider or registered manager working for:

  • A hospital
  • A dentist
  • An ambulance service
  • A care home
  • Any organisation that provides services in people's own homes or elsewhere

Then you’ll need to undergo a criminal records check.

This check is to make sure you’re legally allowed to work with children or vulnerable adults. Our checking service costs from £17.50. There’s an additional cost for the DBS check.

As part of this process you’ll need to pop in to one of our branches, so we can check your application and verify your identity.

How to complete the check

1. Register on the CQC website

Click here to register for your CQC DBS check on the official website.

2. Apply

You’ll receive an email with your username and password – you can use this to log in and complete your application online.

Once you’re in the system, specify which documents you’ll be using to prove your identity. You should then receive a letter with a unique barcode for each document, plus a timeframe to pop into a Post Office branch.

3. Pop in to a Post Office branch

Print out your referral letter and take it to your nearest Post Office that offers the CQC DBS Application Checking Service, along with your original identity documents. To find a branch that offers this service, click here to use our branch finder.

This is when we’ll take payment, plus the charge of the CRB check. You can pay using cash, debit and credit cards.

4. Confirmation

We will physically check the documents, to make sure they’re correct. We’ll then return your documents and the letter to you, along with a printed receipt.

Once we’ve checked your identity and taken your payment we’ll send your details electronically to the CQC.

The CQC may get in touch with you if there are any issues with your application. This can take up to 24 hours. If you submit your application over the weekend it won’t be processed until the next working day.

Who are the CQC?

They’re the independent regulator of all health and social care services in England.

They make sure that the care provided by hospitals, dentists, ambulances, care homes and services in people’s own homes and elsewhere meets government standards of quality and safety.

Call charges

0300: Calls cost no more than calls to geographic numbers (01 or 02). Calls from landlines and mobiles are included in free call packages.

Calls may be monitored or recorded for training and compliance purposes.
