    Take out our cover

    Buy Post Office Over 50s Life Cover. Pay the monthly premiums by direct debit for at least 180 days. Total premiums paid must exceed £200 or you’ll need to continue payments for 24 months, whichever comes first

    Choose your experience

    Once you're eligible, you’ll get an invitation by email or post to choose your experience.

    Pick from a Luxury Night Away or a Family Adventure Day, online or by phone, within 30 days of receiving the invitation

  3. 3

    Receive your experience voucher

    Once selected, your preferred experience voucher will be sent within 28 days, by email or post depending on the provider.

    Your policy must still be active and payments up to date

Some common Life Insurance questions

  • Post Office Over 50s Life Cover is a simple way to leave your loved ones a cash sum gift to settle unpaid bills or help pay for your funeral when you die.

    If you’re aged 50 to 80 and a UK resident, you can get cover in place straight away. Just choose how much cover you’d like to leave behind. Depending on your age at the time of your application, you can choose an amount up to £10,000.

    When you pass on, your named beneficiary (usually a family member) will make a claim by filling in a claim form. Providing all the conditions are met and supporting information is submitted, we’ll give your payout to them.

    If you've bought a policy and you're struggling to keep up with premiums, talk to us. We may be able to reduce them, although this could affect the size of your payout.

    We won’t ask about your health when you apply for an Over 50s policy.

  • Your Post Office Over 50s Life Cover policy continues for the rest of your life.

    You need to keep making monthly payments until either:

    • the policy anniversary date on or after your 95th birthday
    • you pass away

  • You can apply for a maximum cash sum of up to £10,000, depending on your age, when applying for cover.

  • There’s a fixed payment term for Post Office Over 50s Life Cover. You pay to the policy anniversary date after you turn 95 or until you pass away – whichever comes first.

  • Losing a loved one is a difficult time. The last thing those you leave behind need is a drawn out claims process. When the time comes, we'll make it easy for your representatives to claim the cash sum from your policy.

Things you need to know​

Depending on how long you live, you could pay more in monthly payments than the cash sum we pay out when you die. The cash sum you choose is fixed and inflation (the rising cost of goods and services) will reduce its value over time.

1 We only pay out on death. There is no cash-in value at any time. If death by accident, we will pay 2 times the cover amount. If death by natural causes, in the first 12 months from the policy start date, we will pay 1.5 times the total premiums paid towards the cover. If death by natural causes, after the first 12 months from the policy start date, we will pay the full cover amount.

2 This service is separate to and does not form part of the Post Office Over 50s Life Cover policy contract. It’s available to you for free but may be withdrawn at any time. Health and Wellbeing Services are provided by MediPartner Limited.
