If you don’t have your renewal reminder, we can still process your renewal with just your photocard driving licence, providing your name/title hasn’t changed.
We’ll also capture your signature and even submit a change of address if applicable.
The DVLA charges £17 to renew your driving licence. We’ll just charge a further £4.50 to take your photo, check your application and send it securely to the DVLA. That’s a total of £21.50.
We’ll send off your application electronically, and you should have your new licence within 3 weeks. We’ll also take your old driving licence and send it back to the DVLA for you.
From age 70, you must renew your driving licence every three years. Our branch teams can’t do this for you. You need to apply to the DVLA directly.
DVLA should send you a D46P form automatically, about three months before your licence runs out. If you don’t have one, you can use a D1 form. They’re available in some Post Office branches.
Your photocard must be renewed every 10 years, up to the age of 70. It’s illegal to drive without a valid licence and, if you’re caught driving without one:
It’s important that licences are updated every 10 years – having an up-to-date licence will mean you have the latest security features to protect you against fraud. This will also help prevent driving licence impersonation – stopping disqualified and dangerous drivers taking to the road.

If your name or title has changed then you will need to apply by post via a D1 ‘Application for a driving licence’ form, which you can pick up in over 5,000 Post Office branches. For further information please visit DVLA online.
You can change your photo and/or your address using the Post Office service, however any other changes such as name or gender change would need to be done directly with the DVLA.
