At the Post Office® you can get up to 3 identity documents checked for just £7.00, including:

  • passports
  • birth certificates
  • driving licences
  • recent utility bills
  • marriage certificates
  • bank statements
 

If you’re applying for a mortgage, bank account or new job you might need to have your identity documents checked and verified. We’ll check up to 3 original documents against the photocopies and certify each photocopy as a true likeness of the original document.

How the identity checking service works

  1. Decide which documents need checking.
  2. Complete the Post Office® Identity Checking Service form (will open in a new window)
  3. Bring your original identity documents into the Post Office® along with a clear and legible photocopy of each document.
  4. We check each document against the original, date and sign each photocopy and stamp with the words, ‘this copy is a true likeness of the original’ on each document.
  5. We give you back all your documents, your form and a receipt.

Please note:
• We're not able to accept cheques for the Identity Checking service.
• The identity checking service is available in selected Post Office® branches.
