Applying for your Rod fishing licence at the Post Office®

You can purchase your rod fishing licence quickly and easily at the Post Office® by either:

  • selecting the ‘buy a licence’ tab above and apply online
  • visiting one of our selected Post Office® branches
  • calling 0844 800 5386* and apply for your licence over the phone

*Calls may be recorded and monitored for training and compliance purposes

The new season’s rod fishing licence is now available, if you wish to apply or renew an annual licence or purchase short term licences as from the 1 April 2010 you can do so easily through the Post Office®.

Any angler aged 12 years or over, fishing for salmon, trout, freshwater fish or eels in England (except the River Tweed), Wales or the Border Esk and its tributaries in Scotland must have an Environment Agency rod licence.

Please be aware that new 2010/11 season prices have been applied. The new prices for each licence are detailed in the table below.

A salmon and sea trout licence covers you to fish for non-migratory trout and coarse fish as well.

If you're fishing for coarse fish with 3 or 4 rods then you'll need to purchase a second licence.

Concessions are provided to the following types of anglers:

  • 65 and over
  • in receipt of a Blue Badge or Disability Living Allowance. You'll need to provide your Blue Badge Number or National Insurance number when purchasing your licence
  • 12-16 years old inclusive are eligible to a junior concession. Anglers under the age of 12 do not need a rod fishing licence

Full and concessionary rod licences expire on 31 March each year

  • 1-day rod licence is valid for 24 consecutive hours
  • 8-day rod licence is valid for 192 consecutive hours from the start time and date

It is an offence to fish for salmon, sea trout, freshwater fish and eels without a valid rod licence, if you're found fishing without the correct licence you may be fined up to £2,500.

Note: Always carry your receipt or rod licence with you when fishing.
