International Driving Permits

Planning to drive on your next trip overseas? You can apply for an International Driving Permit (IDP) at the Post Office®. It costs just £5.50.

 
  1. Pick up an application form from your nearest Post Office® branch that issues International Driving Permits.
  2. Fill in your application form and bring it back to your selected Post Office® branch with:
  • your UK driving licence (if photocard licence, both the photocard and the counterpart) or your provisional licence and pass certificate
  • the £5.50 application fee
  • a passport-sized photograph, signed on the back
  • your passport or other acceptable signed proof of identity

Please note:

  • you must apply in person for an International Driving Permit
  • you can only apply up to 3 months before when you plan to use your International Driving Permit
