Stay in touch while you’re travelling with Poste Restante

With our Poste Restante service, you can keep getting your mail even when you’re travelling.

With Poste Restante you can:

  • pick up your mail from Post Office® branches in the UK and abroad
  • have mail from the UK stored for two weeks and mail from abroad stored for 1 month
  • have mail you don't pick up returned to the sender
  • use the service free in the UK

For letters, you can use the service for up to three months in any one UK town.

How Poste Restante works

  1. Apply in person at the Post Office® branch you’d like your post sent to
  2. Tell your friends, family and business contacts your Post Office® address (see below)
  3. They can start using your address straight away
  4. All mail should include a return address on the back of the envelope

You can use most UK Post Office® branches and even some of the major post offices in larger towns abroad – you’ll need to take your passport if you pick up your mail abroad.

Here is how Poste Restante addresses need to be written:

Your name
POST RESTANTE
Post Office name
Full address of the Post Office
Postcode of the Post Office
Country (if applicable)

The Poste Restante service is subject to operational capability.
