We'll provide you with our price and, if it doesn't beat your existing renewal premium by at least £50, we'll refund the difference between the two policies - plus the £50.

Full Accidental Damage can be added to your policy to protect your home contents against unexpected accidents.

Home Assistance gives you peace of mind that you'll receive prompt assistance in the event of a domestic emergency. It provides cover for events such as plumbing and drainage emergencies or if you have no hot water or electricity.

Home Assistance provides cover for:

  • Total failure or breakdown of your main hot water or central heating system, as long as it's been serviced no more than 12 months before the emergency, and is no more than 15 years old
  • Plumbing and drainage emergencies
  • Gas and electricity supply failures
  • Up to two hours of labour and/or parts and material costs up to £100 (maximum £1,000 a year) inclusive of VAT – with all work carried out by approved tradesmen guaranteed for 12 months
  • Vermin infestation in your home
  • Up to £250 overnight accommodation costs if you have to leave your home due to an emergency

Home Assistance is administered by ARAG plc and underwritten by AmTrust Europe Limited

Family Legal Protection is available and provides cover up to £50,000 including:

  • Disputes over the buying and selling of goods and services (at least £125 must be in dispute)
  • Residential disputes with your neighbours (claims can only be made after 180 days)

What's covered?
Buildings Insurance Contents Insurance
Protects the physical structure of your home (and permanent fixtures such as kitchen units and wallpaper) against fire, storm, flood, theft, vandalism, leaks and subsidence. Cover your personal possessions against loss or damage in and away from the home. This includes items such as, cameras, mobile phones, tablets computers, handbags and their contents and bicycles up to a value of £1500 per item (£350 of bicycles). You can select a level of cover to suit your needs. Any individual items worth over £1,500 (£350 for bicycles) must be individually listed.

It covers:

  • accidental damage – in case you put your foot through the ceiling or break a window

It gives you:

  • Unlimited Alternative Accommodation for you and your family, if your home is not safe to live in
  • Up to £1,000 Accidental Damage cover to satellite equipment, televisions and their aerials, digital receivers, radios, computers and ancillary equipment (excludes portable devices) and other audio and video equipment
  • 10% extra contents cover for weddings, civil partnerships, Christmas and/or other religious festival, birth of a child or landmark wedding anniversary.  When you’re likely to have extra valuables in your home- covered for one month before and after the event
  • Replacement locks and keys to a maximum of £1000 per incident if keys are lost or stolen
  • Up to £1,500 cover for garden plants including a maximum of £250 per claim
  • Up to £2,000 per claim on contents in the open, including a maximum of £250 per item, e.g. patio furniture and BBQs that are stolen or damaged (£350 limit applies to cycles).

A little more detail

Once you've purchased from us, we'll ask you to send us the relevant documents from your existing provider – you'll find a prepaid envelope for this in your policy pack. We can then check that your existing policy and your new policy with us are ‘like for like'.

What do we mean by 'like for like'?

It means that as well as obvious details like the address being the same, you'll need these four elements to be included in both policies to benefit from our guarantee:

  • Cover type
  • Accidental Damage
  • Personal belongings cover
  • Total Excess

If they don't all match, we may not be able to provide your refund. You'll have 30 days to provide your proofs.

When we've confirmed the policies are like for like, we'll pay you back the difference – plus that £50. Then we'll need up to 30 days to process and provide your refund.

Beat your renewal quote by £50 – terms and conditions of our guarantee

  1. This offer applies to new Post Office Money® Home Insurance customers only, purchasing either a Buildings, Contents or Combined Buildings & Contents Insurance policy. Customers who are renewing or amending an existing policy or who have held a Post Office Money Home Insurance policy within 14 days prior to the start date of their new Home Insurance policy are not eligible for this offer.
  2. This offer excludes properties suffering from subsidence.
  3. The policy must be purchased directly with Post Office Money® Insurance and is not available via price comparison websites. Policies purchased directly with Post Office Money® using a quote reference obtained from the comparison website, will not be eligible for the offer.
  4. Your insurance quotation with Post Office Money must be on an equivalent basis matching your cover levels with your existing insurer including the voluntary excess, but excluding any additional products, instalment charges and fees.
  5. Subject to the qualifying criteria, we guarantee to beat the renewal premium offered by your existing insurer and save you at least £50 provided you purchase the policy.
  6. If the Post Office Money quotation is the same as your existing insurer, then we will pay you back £50 only.
  7. If the Post Office Money quotation is less than £50 cheaper than your existing insurer, we will pay you the difference to make up the value of £50.
  8. If the Post Office Money quotation is more than £50 cheaper than your existing insurer, you are not eligible for the payment.
  9. Your premiums will be based on your initial insurance quotation and the guarantee payback will only apply once the qualifying criteria are satisfied.
  10. To qualify for the offer you will be required to send us a copy of the documentation to prove your existing cover levels and premium details with your current insurer. You will be advised in your policy documentation where to send your documents to. You must send your documents within 30 days of purchasing your policy. Post Office Money will not be able to return any documentation sent to us in conjunction with this offer.
  11. If you fail to provide documentation or where the documentation does not meet the qualifying criteria, Post Office Money will not make any guarantee payback and the policy will continue to be charged at the quoted rate and will be subject to standard charges and fees.
  12. The guarantee payback will be paid into the account or refunded onto the debit/credit card from which the initial payment was made no more than 60 days after the policy has been in force and provided the policy has not been cancelled during this period or where the premium is being paid on a monthly basis all instalments are up to date.
  13. No guarantee payback is payable in respect of any subsequent amendments made to the policy.
  14. If the policy is cancelled for any reason within 12 months of the commencement date, we reserve the right to reclaim any guarantee payback, together with the standard charges and fees as set out in your policy documents.
  15. We reserve the right to vary, withdraw or extend this offer at any time.
  16. This offer and your quotation are subject to standard underwriting criteria. Policy terms and conditions apply and will be provided within the documentation when a policy is taken out.
