How long does it take to buy a house?
Every property purchase is unique, with a huge number of factors able to impact how long it’ll take until you formally own the home and can move in.
Things are much simpler if you’re not part of a chain. In a straightforward purchase, where you’re not selling a home at the same time, and your seller isn’t relying on buying elsewhere for the move to happen, you can be fairly confident you’ll complete within the 15-week national average once an offer is accepted.
When you are in a chain, it’s much harder to say. A hold-up in one part of the chain can delay things for everyone, and the probability of this happening is higher the more sales that are involved. In these situations, it’s not unheard of for the buying process to take six months between an offer being made and completion.
