What’s covered by the sports add-on?
Adventures and activities
We cover a wide range of sports and activities as standard. But more extreme activities, like kite boarding, mountain biking, bungee jumping and more, need this optional extra protection. Check what cover you’ll need and be clear on what’s excluded too
Golf trips
Golf breaks are relaxing but not risk-free. You may need cover for injury from errant balls or tricky terrain. To protect your clubs, bag or trolley against loss, theft or damage. Or to claim unused green fees. This option provides it, plus up to £75~ towards your celebratory bar bill if you hit a hole in one

Common questions
-
Post Office Travel Insurance policies automatically provide cover for a wide range of sports and activities you may wish to take part in during your trip, without having to pay an additional premium for the Sports and Activities Cover option. See a full list of activities covered as standard.
This cover is dependent on the following conditions:
- The activity is accessible to the general public
- It does not require specialist training or qualifications
- You must use the recommended safety equipment (such as a helmet, harness, knee and/or elbow pads)
- You must follow safety procedures, rules and instructions given by qualified instructors
- If the sport or activity is provided by a local operator you must ensure they are appropriately qualified and licenced
- Water-based activities must be on inland waters, or within 12 nautical miles from the coastline (all sailing and yachting activities are covered within European waters only)
Please note, for some activities no personal liability or personal accident cover will be in place. Please check the list to see which sports and activities exclude this cover.
Please note we are unable to provide cover if you are participating or training for a competition or a tournament, or on a professional or semi-professional basis.
-
If you pay an additional premium to add the Sports and Activities (including golf cover) option to your policy, you will be covered for sports and activities not covered by our policies as standard.
Not every sport or activity is covered, so please check the list of what’s included and excluded in the previous FAQ. This add-on cover also provides cover for lost, damaged or stolen golf equipment, loss of green fees and a contribution to hole in one costs at the bar.
This cover can only be purchased for Standard and Premier cover levels.

Some activities and sports come with a higher degree of risk than others. They may pose an increased risk of injury to yourself or others. And they may have the potential to damage property in the unlikely event something goes wrong. Even so, wanting to participate in them shouldn’t stop you getting travel insurance to cover you on your trip, as long as you follow all the correct safety guidelines.
That’s why Post Office offers a Sports and Activities Cover (including golf) option for additional protection. Compare what’s covered as standard or by this add-on in the first FAQ in this list. You’ll also see any activities we can’t provide cover for.

Golfing trips – whether in the UK or abroad – involve unique risks beyond those of a normal holiday.
For a lot of golfers, finding the right clubs takes a long time and is an important investment. Golf equipment can be specialist and of higher value than most items you take with you. So we know how frustrating it could be to lose them, have them stolen or find that they’ve been damaged. This optional, specialist cover can offer cover against this, as well as protection against the unique risks golf courses present that you wouldn’t face in ordinary life.
Golf insurance – part of our optional Sports and Activities Cover (including golf) option – can be easily added to our Standard and Premier policies to provide extra protection on such golf breaks. This additional cover includes protection against injury and loss, theft or damage affecting your clubs, buggy or bag and help towards the cost of replacing them. It may also help you claim back green fees in the event time on the course is lost due to illness, injury or a death. Depending on the policy level you choose, it could also pay up ‘hole in one’ cover towards the costs of the bar bill at the clubhouse to celebrate (£50 with our Standard cover level, £75 with Premier).
-
Adding this option to your Post Office Travel Insurance will cover you if you have an accident on the buggy, but not for any damage caused to the buggy itself. Remember to take care and follow all guidelines for the course with respect to driving buggies.
