How Flight Delay Assistance Plus works

It's a benefit you and up to four fellow passengers named on your policy can enjoy in addition to the delayed departure cover that's already included in your Premier travel insurance.

If your flight's delayed for one hour or more, we'll automatically issue your chosen benefit. Choose from access to 1,200+ LoungeKey lounges^ in over 500 airports across 140 countries or an instant PayPal payout

What to do before you fly

  • Register your flight no later than 24 hours before its scheduled departure and don't forget your return flights

  • If your trip includes multiple flights, you'll need to register each flight leg separately

  • Register yourself and up to four additional passengers named on your policy. Make sure the names exactly match those on the flight booking

  • Select your preferred benefit: either a lounge voucher, where available, or a PayPal payout

If your flight’s delayed

  • We'll automatically issue your chosen benefit if the delay is for one hour or more

  • You'll need a mobile device that can receive SMS text messages and PDF email attachments so we can send you a free lounge access barcode

  • Your chosen benefit will become available if a minimum one-hour delay is announced^^

Register your flight

Just log into your self-service account and enter your policy number into the validating tool. Tell us whether you’d like lounge access or a PayPal payment if you’re delayed by an hour or more. And make sure you register both outbound and return flights.

Common questions

  • Flight Delay Assistance Plus is a free, exclusive service for our Post Office Travel Insurance customers buying Premier level cover. It means that, if your flight's delayed by one or more hours, you can enjoy complimentary access to a LoungeKey™ airport lounge, or an instant payment into a PayPal account, courtesy of us.

Just register online at least 24 hours before your scheduled departure time and select from the benefits available. We'll automatically issue your selected benefit if your registered flight is delayed by one or more hours. Please check our terms of use.

You can enjoy your benefit when a single delay of at least one hour is announced, or several shorter, incremental delays that add up to the one-hour minimum.

  • You can only register for Flight Delay Assistance Plus through our self service portal.

  • Flight Delay Assistance Plus is built to track almost all major commercial airline flights, but there are limitations against airlines/airports that do not report data regularly.

You can register any flight where the airline accurately reports the announcement to FlightStats. If you try to register a flight that does not meet these conditions, the system will inform you of this and you will not be able to register.

Where the flight is departing from an airport with a lounge that's part of the LoungeKey network, you’ll be offered the choice of a lounge voucher or PayPal payout in the event of a delay.

Not every airport has a lounge and if this is the case the PayPal option will be selected for you.

  • Yes, you can include up to four additional passengers who are named on your Post Office Travel Insurance policy when you register. Make sure the names you register match exactly those included on your flight booking or boarding passes.

  • During your flight registration you will be provided with the lounge access option at the ‘Select Your Benefit’ stage. If you’ve selected this option and a qualifying delay is met, we'll send an SMS text and email message with a PDF voucher attached, so you'll need a mobile device with you that can accept them. These messages are sent if:

    • You register the flight online at least 24 hours before its scheduled departure time
    • There's an announcement about a minimum one-hour delay (either a single delay or an accumulation of multiple shorter delays amounting to one or more hours)
    • You selected lounge as your benefit option
