How much can I download each month?

All Post Office Unlimited Broadband deals let you upload, download, stream and share as much as you like. Every single month. There are no usage caps, extra charges or mid-contract broadband price increases. And we won’t slow your broadband at peak times like some providers. Our traffic management policies are transparent – you can read them anytime by taking a look at our T&Cs.


How fast is Unlimited Broadband?

You can get a speed and availability estimate for your area before you place your order. Your download speed estimate shows the range of speeds your line should be able to reach under the best possible conditions – when a single device is connected to your Wi-Fi router with an Ethernet cable.

Your broadband download speed estimate is based on:

  • Where you live
  • The distance from your line to the telephone exchange
  • Speed of similar lines in your area
  • The age and condition of the wiring in your home
  • Electrical interference
  • How many people are using your network at once

All these factors mean the network can slow down at certain points – like evenings and weekends – so your actual speed might be lower than the average advertised peak time speeds or any download estimate we provide.

How much do Post Office Home Phone calls cost?

We offer some of the lowest call rates around. Check our Price Guide for all call rates to the UK, mobile numbers and countries worldwide.
 

What if I don’t want to make any calls from a landline phone?

You can manage the calls you make and receive using our call features. Call our Home Phone team on 0345 600 3210 and ask for Call Barring if you want to block all outgoing calls and take control of your monthly spend.  You’ll still be able to receive calls and make emergency calls to numbers like 999 and 112.
 

Can I get Unlimited Broadband if I don’t have a landline phone?

Yes, you’ll just need to have a new line installed at your address. When you place your order, we’ll run a check and arrange a convenient date and time for an engineer to come and install the line. There’s an additional, one-off cost for this service. We’ll go through everything when you order your broadband package.
 

Can I keep my existing landline phone number?

In most cases, we can transfer an existing phone number to Post Office. You might hear this referred to as number porting. We’ll let you know if we can do it when you place your order, and give you an estimated date and time for the transfer. It’s usually the go-live date stated in your welcome pack we send a few days after you join. If we’re unable to transfer your number by the agreed date, you might be able to claim compensation. If we can’t transfer your number, you’ll be given the option of a new phone number. Our Home Phone and Unlimited Broadband support team will get in touch if we experience delays or can’t transfer your number due to network issues.
 

When will my Unlimited Broadband go live?

After you confirm your order online, in-branch or over the phone, we’ll send you a welcome pack that includes your broadband go-live date. This usually happens up to five working days later.
 

I already have a working phone line at my address

If so, your Unlimited Broadband may go live within 10 working days of your order confirmation.
 

I don’t have a working phone line at my address

If that’s the case, it may take longer as an engineer will need to come and activate or install a new line. Switching from Virgin Media or other cable-based services may also take a bit longer.

Whatever your situation, we’ll give you a go-live date or an estimated timeframe when you place your Unlimited Broadband order.

Should I cancel my current broadband or phone service?

No. If you’ve already got broadband or phone and broadband with another provider, we’ll contact them and handle the switchover on your behalf. If you’re with Virgin Media, you’ll need to wait until your Post Office service is up and running before cancelling. That way, you avoid interruptions to your services.

What If I change my mind?

You may cancel your order any time up to 14 calendar days from the day after you place your order. If your service has already gone live, you may cancel your service at any time but may be subject to Early Termination Charges if your service has a minimum contract term. Things you need to know

Average speeds are based on the download speeds of at least 50% of our customer base at peak time (8pm-10pm) as at 01/07/2019 Speeds will vary depending on a number of different factors. Your exact speed estimate will be given at point of sale. We’ll estimate your download speed range when you check availability at your address. Speeds may be lower than the advertised average peak time speeds or any speed estimate we provide due to factors outside our control such as the distance your home is from the telephone exchange, the specification of your computer, the condition of the wiring in your home or other factors such electrical interference.
