Changes to where you can buy and EHIC
From Monday 18th April 2011 you can no longer apply for your EHIC at your Post Office® branch.
Customers requiring further information on how to apply for an EHIC should either telephone the NHS on 0845 606 2030 or apply via the website (opens in a new window).
Remember, EHIC doesn’t replace travel insurance
In many countries it won’t cover all medical costs, private hospitals or the cost of flying you home.
It won’t cover lost baggage, trip cancellations and many other areas that travel insurance covers.
If you buy Post Office® Travel Insurance and use an EHIC in a medical emergency, we’ll pay the excess on any additional costs for you.
The EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) will give you emergency state-provided medical treatment in European member states. It replaces the old E111 form.
