Hong Kong: an introduction

A mish-mash of cultures and influences, this former British colony now exists as a politically unique region of China. It’s best known for its high-rise skyline and densely-populated streets. But over half of the region is mountainous or covered with lush national parks. One of the world’s best transport systems gets you around, from traditional villages to sandy beaches.

Budget travellers

Hong Kong isn’t known for its budget holidays. But if you’re staying in the cheapest hostels and eating at noodle bars, you can still keep yourself to a budget.
Daily spend: £20-40

Mid-range travellers

Guesthouses and mid-range hotels will be your biggest expense. But taxis here are much cheaper than the UK and you can eat well for less at even the fancier local restaurants.
Daily spend: £50-60

Luxury travellers

The best hotels and restaurants here cost as much as they would in any of the world’s big cities.
Daily spend: £150-250
