Simply pre load your card with Sterling which we convert into your chosen currency. You then use like a debit card in shops, bars and restaurants wherever MasterCard is accepted.

If you need cash you can withdraw currency from any of the 1.5million ATMs that accept MasterCard. An ATM fee will apply, please see the fees and limits tab for details of these charges. 

Travel Money Card Plus gives you peace of mind as it’s not linked to your bank account which reduces the risk of ID theft and you can only spend what you load onto the card reducing the risk of overspending.

The currency cards are available in the following currencies – Euro, US Dollar, Australian Dollar, Canadian Dollar, New Zealand Dollar, South African Rand, Swiss Franc and Sterling.

Unlike most credit or debit cards it means using your Euro card for a €50 meal in Spain will only cost you €50.

In addition to saving you money you get extra piece of mind compared to taking lots of currency as your money is protected should your card be lost or stolen. Terms & conditions apply.

Before you apply

You can apply online or pop into one of over 11,000 branches that offer the Travel Money Card Plus. You’ll need to be 18 years old or over and the card must be for you only. You’ll also need a UK driving licence or valid passport when you apply.

We offer eight currencies, including euros, US dollars and sterling – you’ll need to decide which one you want, along with how much you’d like to load on your card.

When you apply in branch the maximum you can load on your card is £750. Depending on the branch and currency you buy, you may be given the card at the time of purchase or it will be sent to your home address.

If you’re applying online you can load as little as £50 and as much as £5,000 on your card. Once you’ve submitted your application, your card will arrive within six to eight working days and you’ll be able to start using it right away. After that simply sign into your online account to manage your money whenever you want.

Activate your card

Once you’ve got your card you’ll need to activate it and get your PIN. Follow the steps on your welcome letter and send us a text or call our automated phone line. Make sure you give us your mobile number to allow you to use the text service.

All SMS loads requests are in the currency of the card. For example, sending 500 on your US dollar card loads $500.

Your mobile phone must be registered to your account before you can use the SMS servicing options and you can only top up your card via SMS if you have successfully completed an online load and saved your payment card details.
