If you're looking forward to a winter sports holiday this year, make sure you're properly prepared. That doesn't just mean packing appropriate clothing or hiring the right equipment. It means making sure you have the right travel insurance. It's surprising how many people head off for the slopes without the appropriate insurance cover.
Winter sports are exciting, but risky too
Of course, you're going off to have fun. Skiing, snowboarding and ice skating are all exhilarating sports but unfortunately they can also be dangerous. If you're unlucky enough to have an injury abroad it can hurt even more if you have to pay for medical expenses or, in the worst case scenario, a hospital bed or flight to get you home safely.
EHIC may not be enough
You might have heard that if you're travelling in Europe, a valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) can provide you with some state-provided medical healthcare.
The downside is that the local level of care may not be the same as what you'd get in the UK. You will also need to pay for part of your bills, if that's how the local system works. EHIC won't cover the costs of repatriation - getting you back home after a medical emergency on holiday could be very costly.
Winter sports insurance covers more than just personal injury
What's more, it's not just accidents to yourself that you may wish to cover. If you're hiring specialist winter sports clothing and equipment, insurance might not be included. So it could be very expensive to replace if it gets lost, damaged or stolen.
Insure yourself against too little snow
If you turn up at your chosen resort it's obviously a disappointment to discover there's not enough snow. But if you're unable to ski for for more than 24 consecutive hours, we'll pay for you to get to somewhere you can. You're covered throughout December until the end of March in the Northern Hemisphere, and from May until the end of September in the Southern Hemisphere. What's more, if we can't find a suitable alternative, we'll reimburse you some of your costs.
Award-winning travel insurance †
Perhaps you should consider Post Office Money Travel Insurance with winter sports cover.
We’ve been voted one of the best British Travel Insurance Providers by the UK public for over ten consecutive years. We're particularly proud of our achievement because those awards are based solely on the number of votes we receive from the UK public. In other words, we have people like you to thank for our success.
Sort out your travel insurance when you sort out your holiday
Don't leave your holiday insurance to the last minute, have it in place the instant your holiday is booked. That way you'll be covered for things that might prevent you from travelling such as unexpected illness, injury or bereavement. You'll even be protected if you're unlucky enough for your holiday company to go bust.
If your holiday is cancelled, we can help
Try not to pick an insurance policy that only covers you from the start of your holiday. Our Single Trip policy protects you from the moment you take out your policy. Our Annual Multi-Trip policy is in place for a whole year, so you can be reassured knowing your holiday is protected from the policy start date.
A choice of cover to match your needs
As one of the UK's leading providers† we offer you a choice of travel insurance, there are 5 levels of cover available to cover you against the unexpected. Pick the one that best suits you. Our Winter Sports cover won't make the slopes any easier, but it might make them less expensive if you have a tumble.
The availability of cover options is dependent upon the level of cover you select. Conditions and exclusions apply. For full details of what's included with your cover, check the policy documents.
