Guide to customs

If you’re sending a package outside the EU, you’ll need a customs label. You’ll be able to get all the customs forms you need at the Post Office.

  • Is your package worth up to £270? Make sure you include a completed and signed CN22 label. Put it on the front of the item, as near as possible to the top left hand corner – just don’t cover up the address.
  • Is your package worth over £270? Remember to include the top part of the CN22 and a CN23 form in a plastic wallet (SP126).
  • Under customs law, the sender is legally responsible for the information on the declaration; therefore it is in your own interest to ensure that the declaration is completed accurately and in full. If you have any questions please ask in your Post Office branch - our staff will be happy to help.

As well as your customs label, you'll need to sign to confirm that the item doesn't contain anything restricted by post regulations. Familiarise yourself with international post restrictions.

Prohibited and restricted goods

There are some goods that can’t be sent in the post, and there are others which can be sent but with clear restrictions.

Some overseas countries have their own rules on what they will and will not allow to be sent by post. It's important to check the item you are sending is allowed in the destination country otherwise we will not pay compensation in the event of loss or damage.

Some countries and international organisations impose restrictions on what you can send to certain individuals, organisations or countries.
