Rationalisation and Modernisation Continues

We’re undergoing one of the most important change programmes in the UK.
New delivery methods to enable our people to deal with the changes in the postal market – a decline in letters and an increase in packets – are being introduced.

Significant reductions in the number of mail centres are also underway and around half of our 64 centres in 2010 could eventually close by 2016 or sooner.

Today, after more than nine months of consultation with the CWU under the 2010 Business Transformation agreement, we’re announcing the plan for rationalisation and investment in Greater London.

We expect to invest £69 million in Greater London as part of the UK-wide modernisation programme.

We’re also announcing today that consultations with Unite/CMA will begin shortly on reducing the number of our operational line managers in Royal Mail, across the UK, by up to 1000 by voluntary means.

Everyone in the company is being briefed on developments. You can read our press release on the Royal Mail Group website. We also have extensive information on our Intranet home page and we’ll be covering the announcement in Courier.

www.myroyalmail.com: coming to a computer near you

We all know the convenience and importance of being able to find workplace information on any computer at any time, at work or at home. But it’s a facility few of us have. That's set to change soon, though, with a new website dedicated to keeping our Royal Mail people fully in the picture, launching later this spring. As well as giving you easier access to some of the essential tools of the job and an insight into what many of your colleagues are doing, it’ll be the dedicated channel for key messages reaching you as soon as they’re available. Look out for announcements on the intranet and the new link on this page too.
