Believe in Children: Post Office® 1000 Challenge

The Post Office 1000 challenge was part of the ongoing ‘Believe in Children’ appeal for Barnardo’s, our charity partner since 2008.

Chris Moon, a disabled ultra-distance athlete, ran an incredible 36 miles a day for the 30 days of September 2010 across the UK visiting Post Office branches, Post Office sites and Barnardo’s projects to raise money for the Barnardo's ‘Believe in Children’ appeal.

Post Office® and Barnardo’s, children and young people’s charity, form a partnership

In March 2008 Barnardo’s, one of the UK’s leading children’s charities was successful in a ballot of all Royal Mail Group employees to become its charity partner and form a long-term partnership.

Like the Post Office®, Barnardo’s has an extraordinary reach across the UK, working at the heart of every community. The partnership aims to offer numerous opportunities for both organisations on a nationwide scale.

At the end of the partnership, Post Office® will expect to have made a significant and positive impact on Barnardo’s and its work – to believe in even more children and young people.
Speaking of the partnership, Martin Narey, Barnardo’s Chief Executive explains, ‘I am truly delighted that Royal Mail Group staff have chosen Barnardo’s and I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who voted for us and to those who will be raising vital funds. I look forward to working with them.’

Kay Allen, Royal Mail Group Head of Social Action and Inclusion said, ‘As a large organisation with people working in every town and city in the UK, we were looking to partner a UK wide charity, so that everyone can get involved and make a contribution locally, regardless of where they work.’
