About the sports collection
The Royal Mint has released a series of 50p coins
, designed by members of the public, into nationwide circulation. Depicting the power and passion of the world’s greatest sporting event, the coins showcase each of the 29 Olympic and Paralympic sports to be contested during London 2012.
From the speed of the Velodrome to the excitement of the athletics track, from the grace of beam, bars and vault to the sweat of the coxless fours, the drama of each sport has been captured on millions of coins in pockets and purses across the land.
Each pack showcases all 29 Olympic and Paralympic sports... and every one has been designed by you: the nation.
Each design has been carefully reproduced, minted and packaged into a vibrant display of colour, which reflects the energy and excitement which surrounds the London 2012 Games. See the whole collection

Meet the designers
In January 2009, The Royal Mint launched their biggest ever competition inviting the British public to design a series of 29 new 50p coins.
They received over 30,000 designs from all over the country, each depicting a sport from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. They’ve selected 29 of the best – celebrating the sports of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Below are a few videos with the designers discussing their designs:
